A telephone service includes verbal communication as a way of connection to all the parts of the world that had telephone network. Telephone Services are all inclusive of all kind of service that a telecommunication department provides in a region and country at large. The telephone service was previously known as Post Office Telephone Service/System. Later the telephone service was split from the national post offices and the name changed to Telephone Services.
In the recent times, there had been variations in the telephone service with technical innovations and advancements like the VoIP, ISDN and mobile phones. The telephone services was computerized in the 1970s and 1980s. The telephone services include Call waiting, Centrex, Speed Dialing, Voice mail, Caller ID, Conference call etc.

Telephone Services also transmits digital information through the technically advanced devices like modems and facsimile machines.
The plain old telephone services lacked mobile capabilities and had a low bandwidth. The dial tone availability of the telephone service is cited as bench mark as it had 99.999% of dial tone availability.
In todays world with technical advancements telephone services provide mobile connection, Internet connection and many other communication facilities and claims itself to be the most reliable mode of communication.
