Telephone Directory
In a telephone directory the names of the telephone subscriber are listed against their postal address and telephone number in an alphabetical order. Telephone directory are basically regional based. Names of all the telephone users who are subscribed under the organization are listed in the telephone directory published by the same organization. First telephone directory was published in Connecticut on February 21st ,1878. Subscriber can also request not to have their names in the telephone directory on paying a certain amount of fees that is charged. In that case the subscriber is said to be unlisted,private or ex-directory. The unlisted numbers does not get flashed on a caller-ID.
Telephone directories are published in hard copy form or in an electronic form on the Internet.
A telephone directory is referred to by several names and basically the name differs with the color of the page that the information is printed on. Like, White Pages, Yellow Pages, Black Pages, Blue Pages etc.

A White pages is a telephone directory which shows the names and the telephone number of the subscriber listed alphabetically. White pages have the lists of personal numbers. Yellow Pages is more of a business directory, the business type or the service of the subscriber is listed with a paid advertisement. Black Pages are the reverse telephone directories. Some countries have Blue or Green pages where the telephone numbers of government agencies are listed.
