Swisscom
Swisscom AG in Switzerland is one of the most preeminent telephone company. Swisscom operates nationally and provides products and services in the fixed line services, mobile services and IP- based data communication and voice communication system. Swisscom is often known as “Blue Giant” in the media sector.
Initially, Swisscom was a part of PTT. The postal and telecommunication market was split in Europe with the general liberalization of European telecommunication company. Switzerland also followed the same track. The postal communication department was renamed as Swiss Post and the telecommunication was named PTT Telecom. Later PTT Telecom was renamed as Swisscom in the year 1997 after the privatization. Swisscom transformed into an incorporated company in the year 1998.

There are many divisions in the Swisscom, which specializes in certain communicational fields related to telecom. Swisscom Fixnet specializes in providing analog telephone lines and ISDN lines. The division that handles the Internet system under Swisscom is known as the Bluewin. The mobile phone division is called the Swisscom Mobile.
Vodafone had 1/4th share of the company, but by the end of the year 2006, Swisscom recovered it and again established itself independently. The Swisscom Mobile has an estimated subscriber of about 4 million. Swisscom Mobile is noted for being the prime in providing UMTS mobile phones. An in-house section of Swisscom Mobile provides a quality service through which the subscriber can seamlessly switch between GPRS/UMTS/EDGE/WLAN.
Swisscom's customer help and service department is better referred to as Swisscom Solutions. This department provides extensive and immediate service to the subscriber. Swisscom IT, in Switzerland is the leading provider of IT services.
