Sweden

Sweden formally liberalized its industry of telecommunication in 1993. Televerket, a leading phone company in Sweden previously possessed the sole right to attach equipment to the public network. In 1989 this Swedish telephone company created a subsidiary called the Swedish Telecom International which was mainly meant for the customers worldwide.

According to the 2002 survey 6,579,200 main lines are being used in Sweden and around 9.775 million mobile cellulars are being used in 2004. while talking about Sweden phones we shoul mention the name of Telia Sonera AB which is considered to be the leading phone company and mobile network operator in Sweden. Its headquarter is located in Stockholm.

TeliaSonera has been formed after the merging of the Swedish Telia and Finnish Sonera telecommunications companies. Before undergoing privatization it used to operate its monopoly business in telecommunication. This Swedish telecommunication company mainly works as a mobile network operator and provides Internet services.

On the other hand Tele2 is one of largest alternative telecommunications operators of Europe. It has been running its operation as a fixed-line telephone operator for a long time. In the late 1970s Tele2 started as a telecommunications company in Sweden and since then is running its business successfully.
