NTT

NTT or Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation is an autonomous telephone company that dominates as the apex body in the Japanese telecommunication market. The Japanese Ministry of Finance holds nearly 33% share of NTT . Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation was divided into a major company ( NTT ) and three telecoms companies named as East, West, and Communications in 1998. NTT Communications does not regulate on the NTT Law. The NTT Law regulates NTT East and West to serve the purpose of only short distance communications.

At first NTT was a monopoly public corporation. But in 1985, NTT was privatized to make the telecommunication market a competitive one. NTT by law is in control of the last mile. Because of such control, NTT enjoys an oligopoly over the other land line service providers.

NTT Communications had hit the headlines of the global media when they had taken prompt actions in restoring nearly all of its totally managed services within 48 hours after the earthquake hit on the southwestern coast of Taiwan on 26 th December, 2006. The total services were restored by 10:19 P.M. (Japan Standard Time) on 16 th January, 2007.
