Northwestel
Northwestel is an abbreviated form of Northwest Telecommunications which is playing good in the long distance carrier and incumbent local exchange carrier (ILEC) in Northern Canada. The telecommunication companies operate on price regulation and split rate base in the competitive environment. Though Northwestel does not manage a split rate base, as of 2007, Northwestel competes closely with other telecommunication companies in Canada.
The original operating service of Northwestel comprised of the entire Yukon, parts of northern British Columbia and the western part of the Northwest Territories that include the Kitikmeot Region communities of Pelly Bay renamed as Kugaaruk, Gjoa Haven and Spence Bay or Taloyoak.

On 1st July in the year of 1992, Northwestel purchased the operating territories of Bell Canada in the Northwest Territories to bring the entire Northern Canada under the umbrella of a single company. Northwestel regulates on its own method independent of the operating methods by Bell Canada till date.
