MTS

MTS is the major telecommunications service provider in the province of Manitoba in Canada. Manitoba Telephone System is abbreviated as MTS. MTS serves the citizens of Canada with their local and long distance telecommunications services of premier quality. The other services MTS provide are television service and wireless services. The wireless service penetration has been low in Canada in comparison with United States of America. But since MTS has merged with Allstream in 2004, the wireless service in Canada is reaching an apex. Post merge, MTS is known as 'MTS Allstream Inc.'.

MTS was a provincially owned telephone company in the earlier times. MTS has descended from the Manitoba Government Telephones which started its operation in January 1908. In 1996, the provincial Government led by Premier Gary Filmon took a decision to sell MTS to private shareholders in The Toronto Stock Exchange. That decision created a storm in the politics of Canada.
