KDDI Corporation is a telecommunication operator originated in October 2000 followed by the merger of KDD, DDI and IDO Corp.

KDDI created a sensation in the Japanese telecommunication market with the launch of 3G networks using CDMA2000 1X technology on April 1, 2002. On 28 th November the next year, KDDI in association with au introduced CDMA2000 1xEV-DO service in the CDMA 1X WIN brand. KDDI gave the Japanese telecommunication industry a new shape with the introduction of fixed rate data subscription plans at a data rate of 2.4 Megabit per second.
