A silver bar can be used for various purposes, for just investment or as bullion. Monetary value was attached to silver centuries ago. The usage of silver in the coins manufacture has been terminated. There are one ounce silver bars, hundred ounce silver bars and thousand ounce silver bars. The main advantage of investment in silver bars is that they carry a low premium over spot silver. The hundred or thousand ounce silver bars are a product of the industry, thus it is recognized around the world as a trading medium and storage means. The thousand ounce silver bars are also known as troy bars.

An American company called Engelhard had introduced some new silver bars which are known as Silver Engelhard bars. This Fortune 500 Company pioneers in the development of the catalytic converter. The retail investors mostly choose the silver bars of this popular brand. This company has been producing silver bars since 1980s. The other brands which are very renowned are Johnson Matthey and Pan American Silver.





Apart from the above mentioned bars there are also other bars like the odd weight retail bar which is less costly but has risk attached to it due to lack of brand names. There are also other bars like 1 kilogram bars and 10 or 1 oz bars.

As silver bars or ingots take up a very small amount of space, storage is not a problem. In many countries these bars are sold and bought in the bank counters. These can be easily handled and are accepted for resale without problems
