Liberty Silver Coin

The Liberty Silver Coin celebrates the friendship of France and United States of America established during the American Revolution. The Statue of Liberty completed her 100th year on October 28, 1986. The Statue standing with its head held high is the perfect example of freedom and democracy as well as this international friendship that was established long ago. The United States Mint authorized the minting of different coins to commemorate this great event by an act of the Congress. The United States government had authorized to issue these coins keeping in mind certain things. They were concerned about the future maintenance of the historical monument. So it was decided that a part of the original purchase price of each coin would be used to restore the Statue and Ellis Island and an endowment would be created for the future maintenance of these national heritages.
