Boat Bar, Chi Bar, Rainbow Bar, Pendant Bar and Bank Bar are the names of different kinds of important gold bars which are very dazzling and lustrous and are marked with great significance.
Gold is a precious and rare chemical metal with high amount of malleability. This gold is transformed into bars, giving a definite shape and on the bar, the name of its manufacturer; its weight and purity are engraved. This forms a gold bar. Gold bars are sold at low interest over the actual current price of gold. There are different types of gold bars which can be categorized under two broad headings - cast bars and mint bars, based on the method of their production. Chi bar, Boat Bar, Rainbow Bar, Pendant Bar and Bank bar are some of the important types of gold bar. Starting with the Boat bar, it is a specific form of cast Tael bar, the other two forms being Biscuit bar and Doughnut bar. Boat bar was so called because of its boat like shape. This type of bar was popularly used as coins during the Hans Dynasty. Chi barChi Bar is a specific form of gold bar of great significance. Chi bar was first manufactured by Pamp, a recognized manufacturer of Chi bars. Pamp produced it for Vietnam. This gold bar is a minted gold bar. All the markings of the bar are put by mint press. The term ‘chi’ is used as a unit of weight in Vietnam. 1 unit of Chi is equivalent to 3.75 g.Rainbow BarAnother important gold bar is the Rainbow bar. One of the leading manufacturers of Rainbow bars is Mitsubishi of Japan. This bar is manufactured by a combination of pure gold of varied colors which gives it an attractive patterned look uniquely done. The history of Pendant Bar goes back to 1978, when, for the first time, a gold bar manufacturer, Degussa of Germany produced a beautiful minted bar which had an unusual hexagonal shape. Then onwards, pendant bars became popular. Pamp, a recognized gold bar manufacturer of Switzerland carried on further with the production of pendant bars from 1984 onwards.
Finally, Bank Bars are those gold bars which are issued by different banks but are manufactured by outsiders who are not a part of the bank. These bars are minted gold bar and have the name of the issuing bank written on them. They are primarily found in Europe and Brazil. A remarkable collection all these different kinds of gold bars were displayed in the International Gold Bar Exhibition which was held at the Bank of England Museum in 1998. |
