American Buffalo Gold Coin started the convention of producing 0.9999 fine 24-karat gold bullion coins in United States. American Buffalo Gold Coin was available for sale by the United States Mint on June 22 in 2006, to meet the stipulation of investors who sought investment in the form of pure gold. American Buffalo Gold Coin is an indispensable constituent of the American nostalgia and history as the design of the coin is based on the classic structure of the “buffalo nickel” or the traditional “Indian head” that was released in 1913. The coin is a creation of the world famous sculptor James Earle Fraser. The design of the coin is one of the most enduring works by the sculptor and represents a Native American Indian much like a Sagamore on the obverse and the reverse symbolizes an American buffalo. There is an interesting tale behind the American Indian design; it is supposed to be based on three different American Indians. The designer, Fraser, before his death even accorded recognition to the American Indians who modeled for the sculpture of the coin. American Buffalo Gold Coin has a face value of US$50 and a body mass of 1 troy ounce with a diameter of 32.7mm and thickness of 2.95 mm. The market value of the American Buffalo coin is based on the current market spot price of gold plus a premium per coin. The inflation-affected economy has always witnessed massive investment in gold, and with the commencement of 24-karat gold bullion coins, the Americans have found a new, simple and tangible way to own and invest in gold. The United States Mint will introduce a proof version of these coins specially designed for the collectors. Proof version of the coin refers to a specialized minting process that yields a highly detailed image of the coin. Each proof coin will be available at a fixed price with an official Authenticity Certificate and can be acquired directly from the United States Mint. |
