Unakite

The Unakite gem was found in the Unakas Mountains situated in North Carolina, in United States of America. The stone was named after the ‘Unakas” mountains. The gem consists of pink colored orthoclase feldspar, quartz and green epidote. Best quality Unakites are nowadays used in jewelries and also in lapidary works like carvings, eggs and spheres. This stone is also known as “epidotized granite”. The gem is available in various shades of green and pink. Some Unakite gems do not have quartz and is more commonly known as “episodite”.

The semi precious Unakite are found on the shores of the beautiful Lake Superior as pebbles. It is also considered to be Virginia’s state stone. This gem is also found in other parts of the world like South Africa, Sierra Leone, Brazil, and China. It is being said that the stone is used for providing moral boost during depression.
