Sodalite

Sodalite is chemically known as Sodium Aluminum Silicate Chloride and it is a colored semi-precious gemstone. It comes in the shades of blue, green, pink, white and gray The crystals of this stone are either transparent, translucent or opaque and dodecahedral in arrangement. Sodalite belongs to the class of silicates and the subclass of tectosilicates. It has cleavage which is inadequate and it does not show pleochroism.

Sodalite belongs to the group of the feldspathoid minerals. They are found in alkaline and igneous rocks. It is quite evident that the name Sodalite, comes from the presence of Sodium in it. It is in Brazil that the biggest deposit of this gemstone is found.



Medicinal properties of Sodalite:
