Sapphire

The fascinating color range of Sapphire makes it one of the most treasured and popular gemstone admired by all men and women. Sapphire is single-crystal form of corundum mineral. The chemical term for this mineral is ‘Aluminum Oxide’ (Al2O3). The Sapphire is found naturally as a gemstone or can be manufactured as large crystal boules.

Natural Sapphires are usually blue in color. The color blue symbolizes harmony, friendship and loyalty. It comes in different shades of blue starting from the lightest shade of sky blue to the most dark and intense mid night blue.

Other colored Sapphires are known as Fancy Sapphire. Purple colored Sapphire is the most popular Fancy Sapphire. The color is close to the blue Sapphires but is available in a much lower price. The Sapphires get its pink color due to the presence of chromium. Fancy Sapphires are also available in shades of orange and brown. Colorless Sapphires look like a cheaper version of diamond and is often used in jewelries as a substitute of diamond.







Sapphires are mined mainly from alluvial deposits. Sri Lanka, Madagascar, Thailand and Myanmar are the countries that mine Sapphires. The leading producer of Sapphire is Australia. Other countries that produce Sapphire are India, Tanzania, Pakistan and New South Wales etc.





Sapphires are mostly used in jewelry making. These heavenly gems studded astonishing magnificent earrings, necklaces, bangles, bracelets etc. are the ornaments that are desired by all.
