Prasiolite

The name “prasiolite” has been originated from Greek words. The words “Prason” and “Lithos” stands for ‘leek” and from these two words comes the stone name ‘prasiolite”. The gem is frequently mistaken with other gems like Green Beryl, Peridot and Tourmaline. The green colored semi precious prasiolite is known by various names like Vermarine, Lime Citrine or Green Amethyst.

The colors of these stones are mainly pale yellow green and deep green. The hue of this stone resembles the colors of vegetables and different types of stones. The hardness of this stone is seven as measured on the Mohs scale. This gem is found in the countries like Brazil, and United States of America.

The Prasiolite gemstone is used for therapeutic purposes. It is said that the stone has the power of strengthening your mind and emotions and hence helps in bringing joy to people’s heart. The stone has immense influence on the spiritual as well as the physical aspects of life.

This rare gemstone is formed when the amethysts is exposed to heat. This process gives the color of the stone. This procedure of formation mainly takes place in the Montezuma deposits found in Brazil. Prasiolite has a hardness of about seven on Mohs scale and a specific gravity of 2.65. The structure of the stone is hexagonal and the refractive index varies from 1.544 to 1.553. The pleochroism is weak that is the stone doesn’t displays different colors when placed in different directions. The stone is more of a collector’s item.
