Kornerupine

Kornerupine is a precious gemstone which usually has a yellowish green color. The color of this stone resembles the color of emerald. But the gem will never be able to substitute emerald because of its scarcity. Kornerupine is also available in many other hues like yellow, pink, brown. The hardness of the stone is six to seven on Mohs scale. The crystals of Kornerupine are very transparent and are generally found in elongated prism shape. The specific gravity of this stone is 3.3 and the crystal arrangement is orthorhombic.

The Kornerupine gemstone is mostly found in the places like Ratnapura, Sri Lanka, Madagascar, Harts Range, Betroka, Australia Kenya and the Nuuk area of Greenland. This gemstone is mainly found in certain gem gravels known as placers. These placers occur in the countries like Sri Lanka and are generally found behind rock structures and curves of streams. This stone is not cut for common purposes due to its rarity.
