Hematite

Iron(III) oxide in its mineral form is known as hematite. Apart from its qualities as a metal hematite is also used in jewelries. The usage of this mineral for making ornaments is nothing unique. The Red Indians widely used his mineral to adorn themselves. Though around the world this style is not widely accepted but the trend is fast catching.

The color of this mineral is between black and gray but sometimes reddish version of this mineral is also found. Though the color of a hematite is mostly black the name is derived from a Greek word which means red. The chemical formula of hematite is Fe2O3. The mineral has a dull earthy luster with red or brownish red streaks on them. The names of the types of hematite present in the world are as follows, hematite rose, tiger iron, kidney ore, oolitic hematite and specularite. The names of these forms are kept in line with the characteristic and colors of the hematite.

Hematite are present in mostly all the continents but better quality samples are acquired mainly from the ores located in England, Mexico, brazil, Australia and various regions of the North American continent.

The Victorians’ and ancient Americans’ love for the hematite jewelry has in this century become very popular. People with different taste and unique sense of style like to experiment with these jewelries. The trend is spreading so fast that these jewelries are being sold both online and offline extensively.
