Feldspar

Feldspar is the versatile mineral found in the earth’s crust in more quantities than any other mineral. The usage of this mineral is extensive and wide and only recently it is being used as a gemstone. This crystallized form of magma is also known as ‘feld’. Like its versatility fairly large number of separate minerals can be acquired from feldspar. Among these 20 minerals about nine are well recognized. Apart from normal feldspar there are also K-feldspars which are also known as alkali feldspar. The forms of feldspar which falls under the category of plagioclase are albite, oligoclase, andesine, labradorite, bytownite and anorthite.

Feldspar is a mineral used in subjects like earth sciences and archeology, mainly for experimental purpose. Ceramics a common material used for construction is a form of feldspar. The chemical formula of feldspar varies with its different form but the formula of normal feldspar is XAl(1-2) Si(3-2) O8 .







Though it is very hard to find feldspar which has all the qualities of a gem the business of ornaments and jewels made of the gem variant of feldspar in becoming popular day by day. In United States this trade of gem feldspar is very common but the country imports it from any countries around the globe.





The sources of feldspar are very wide it is found in the granite mines and even from the sands on the seashore. Due to this abundant source the price of feldspar is low. Mostly Brazil, Colombia, France, India and Germany contains maximum amount of feldspar in the globe.
