Beryl

Beryls are the most popular gemstones that are available in beautiful colors. These types of gemstones have high brilliance and are hexagonal in shape. The hardness of this stone is 7.5 to 8 on the Mohs scale. The name “beryl” was taken from the country India. It was named after the Sanskrit word “veruliyam”. This was an old word for “chrysoberyl” and from this word came the Greek word “beryllos’. The beryl gemstone is widely available gemstones reserves of South America, Central and West Africa. This famous beryl gemstone is also available in the places like Madagascar, Russia Ukraine, and also in USA.

The gemstone cutters shape these rough stones, which take multi-faceted shapes. Generally, rectangular and square step cuts are best suited for these types of gemstones. Basically, the beryl stones are colorless but due to their capability of storing different foreign substances they can be transformed into pink, yellow or green beryl. These gemstones are beryllium-aluminium-silicates, which are also available as iron colored beryl, aquamarine colored beryls.

Those beryls, which have little amount of manganese, are quite different from the others. This element specially gives a feminine pink look to the stone and is transformed into morganite. The four main classes of beryl group are classics, emerald, aquamarine and morganite. This kind of beryl is known as ‘pink beryl”.

A colorless beryl can get transformed into a colorful golden stone if iron is being mixed with uranium. This gemstone shares the good qualities of the light blue aquamarine. The golden beryls are devoid of any inclusions are available in two colors, lemon yellow and deep yellow.
