The gemstone aquamarine is one of the most sought after jewel of women. Due to its divine sky color it is liked by all. The color of this stone is so fascinating that it mesmerizes any onlooker. The blue of this gemstone also resembles the blue color of the ocean. The name “aquamarine” is derived from the Latin word “aqua” meaning “water” and “mare” that is “sea” The stone belongs to the family of beryl just like the emerald. Aquamarine is devoid of inclusions and is a very hard stone.

The hardness of the stone is 7.5 to 8 on the scale of Moh. Due to its durability it is protected from any type of scratches. The intensity of the color determines the value of the stone. The color of this precious stone varies from deep sea blue to pale blue. The aquamarine gemstones are abundantly found in the countries like Brazil, South America, Nigeria, Zambia, Madagascar, Mozambique, Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Large aquamarine stones with spotless transparency are available in beautiful colors, which are not commonly seen in gemstones. In Brazil, different kinds of aquamarine stones were found like the 110.5 kg crystal discovered in 1910 in the regions of Minas Gerais. The largest kind of this gemstone known as the “Dom Pedro” was also discovered in Brazil.

Aquamarine is the most preferred stone of the designers, which looks extremely beautiful when cut in different shapes. The classical step cut is a most common shape given to this precious stone.
