Andalusite

The Andalusite gemstone has derived its name from a region in Spain known as ‘Andulasia’. The uniqueness of the stone lies in the fact that it projects different colors when placed in different directions. The stone is pleochroic in nature. The brilliance of this stone is an exceptional quality. The Andalusite is mainly found in the countries like Ceylon, Brazil, and Madagascar.

Generally, while cutting pleochoric stones, the techniques are to reduce the effect of pleochroism and give prominence to the best color. But this procedure is not followed while cutting the Andalusite gemstone rather the opposite method is being preferred. Usually the gem cutters give a combination of orange brown and gold to the Andalusite gemstone. The scintillating stone is available in many shapes but the best hue is prominent when a fancy shape is given to it. The rectangular cushion structures are very common in Andalusite. If the stone is given a round cut proper blending of colors take place.

Few years back this gemstone was popularly known as the “poor man’s alexandrite” because Andalusite gemstone is available in moderate prices. Though it is being said that this precious stone is a color change jewel but the truth is all the colors are present within it. The Andalusite stone is mainly used in men’s accessories due its long-lasting capability and color. Apart from men’s jewelry this stone is also used in other kinds of exclusive jewelry. Different colors are visible in the many sided faces of this stone. If you want to buy this stone always go for stones with deep colors and original shape.
