Alexandrite

Alexandrite, one of the uncommon amazing gemstones gets its name from the well-known tzar of the country of Russia, Alexander II (1818-1881). The foremost crystal of the gemstone was detected from a mine beside the river of Tokovaya in year 1834. Seeing that this gemstone came in the two chief colours of previous Royal Russia as green and red, this inescapably considered as the national gemstone of tsaristic Russia. The renowned gemologist G. Frederick Kunz from Tiffany, designed several sequence of rings with this fascinating gemstone.

Alike most of the gemstones, this stone came out before billions of years. But the constitution of the stone involves some particular and rare geologic preconditions. The chemical composition incorporates beryllium and chromium as the chief components of Alexandrite. Chromium has the main contribution in the awesome color changing attribute of Alexandrite.







Greenish or Green color with light blue tinge Alexandrite becomes reddish or purple–red in radiant light. This unparalleled visual attribute has make this gemstone distinctive and one of the most precious gemstones world wide.

Although the “Uralian mines “in country of Russia was the only source of Alexandrite, but gradually mines in various countries including Sri Lanka, Brazil, Burma, Madagascar, India, Zimbabwe commenced to supply Alexandrite.





Alexandrite gemstone is mostly admired for its alluring spectrum of altering shades.The stone with 8.5 hardness is worthy of wearing and exquisitely surfaced alexandrite more than 1 carat weight is regarded as one of most costly gems of all.
