In the year 1966, the Taylor-Burton Diamond was discovered in the Premier mine. Presently, the owner of the diamond is the president of the Mouawad Group, Robert Mouawad. In the rough state, this precious stone weighed around 240.80 carats. The Taylor-Burton diamond was bought by Harry Winston and then the stone was cut into two pieces. The bigger piece weighed around one hundred and sixty two carats and the other pear shaped piece weighed 69.42 carats.
Later on, this diamond was up for sale and it was sold for a price of $ 1,050,000. The rare Taylor-Burton diamond was renamed as “Cartier” and was again bought by Richard Burton which was gifted to Elizabeth Taylor. In this way the diamond came to be known as the “Taylor-Burton diamond”. But in the year 1978, Elizabeth Taylor got divorced from Richard Burton and sold the world’s rarest diamond in order to gather funds for a hospital.
The famous Taylor-Burton diamond was cut by the jeweler Harry Winston. Before Elizabeth Taylor, the diamond was owned by Harriet Annenberg Ames. In 1978, the New York based jeweler, Henry Lambert purchased it from Taylor by shelling out a huge amount of $5,000,000. The present owner of this rare diamond has given a recut to the stone which now weighs around 68.09 carats. Before the recut, the Taylor-Burton diamond had a culet which has been made much smaller along with a rounded outline in the girdle. The Taylor-Burton diamond is a unique piece of diamond which is famous all over the world.
