Pumpkin Diamond

The breathtaking light yet intense natural orange color of the Pumpkin Diamond makes it stand out from all the other orange diamonds ever existed. The Pumpkin Diamond is the world’s largest “Fancy Vivid Orange Diamond” certified by the Gemological Institute of America” (GIA).

The diamond was found in South Africa in 1997. The cutting and the polishing was done by William Goldberg. William Goldberg set the diamond for auction at the Sotheby’s. Ronald Winston from the “House of Harry Winston” bought the still unnamed diamond for $1.3 million. The diamond was named Pumpkin Diamond because Winston had bought the orange colored diamond on the day before Halloween.

The cushion cut Pumpkin Diamond weighs 5.54 carats (1.108 g). The color of the diamond is described as ‘Fancy Vivid Orange’. The size of this diamond is comparatively smaller than other world famous diamonds and the color is also lighter that any other orange diamonds. But these are the features that make the Pumpkin Diamond a unique piece of gemstone ever produced.

The Pumpkin Diamond is set in a ring with two white smaller diamonds on each side. The diamond was transformed into this ring as soon as it was purchased by Winston. This fascinating ring was worn by the “Best Actress” Academy Award winner Halle Berry on the night of the ceremony in 2003.

The Pumpkin Diamond was exhibited at the Smithsonian’s “The Splendor of Diamonds” exhibition. The current value of the diamond is $3 million.
