Princess Cut

Princess Cut is one of the most popular kinds of mixed cuts which highlight the brilliance of the diamonds. This particular cut was introduced in the 1960’s by A. Nagy. Princess cut diamond reflects enormous radiance and beauty compared to the other types of mixed cut diamond. This accounts for the growing popularity of Princess Cut.

Over the period, different types of cuts have been developed with the aim to enhance and reflect the excellent qualities of outstanding diamonds. A diamond is given superb form with the help of these cuts which proportionately arranges the varying aspects of a gemstone.

Princess Cut is a type of a mixed cut. In mixed cut, the positive aspects of brilliant cut and step cut are combined together to produce best results.

While princess cut diamonds resembles a pyramid in their shape, their top is square or rectangular shaped. Thus, the princess cut enjoys the brilliant aspects of a round cut and also has a rectangular or square shape unlike the round cut diamonds. Hence, this cat is also known as “square modified brilliance”.

Moreover, this cut also proves to be the best one because it, unlike the other cuts, does not affect much of the original gemstone thereby resulting in minimum wastage. This way the diamond can preserve most of its genuine properties. This cut is also very popular with the modern diamond cutters.

A princess cut diamond graded by the American Gemological Society as “O” is a most superior diamond in its class.
