Nizam Diamond

The Nizam diamond is one of the most famous diamonds ever found in the world. The story behind this precious stone dates long back during the reign of the King of Golconda. Weighing about three forty carats the precious stone was possessed by the emperor of Golconda and came to be known as the Nizam diamond. This rare diamond had a worth 5,000,000. The Kollur mine situated along the river Kistna was famous for yielding large diamonds.


The famous Nizam diamond was also found in this Kollur mine. It was being heard that this precious stone derived its name from the Prince Nizam of Hyderabad. The stone had an almond shape and was considered to be one of the rare diamonds in the world. The diamond was broken into various parts during the Indian revolt. The impact of the breaking of this rare stone was felt in many historic events. It was supposed to be a bad sign for the kingdom and many learned men had given powers to this rare gem.
