Millennium Star

The Millennium Star, presented by the illustrious De Beers and the Steinmetz Group, is the sixth largest white diamond in the globe. The Millennium Star along with other rare set of diamonds was brought out by De Beers and the Steinmetz Group on the event of marking the year 2000. Hence the name Millennium was given thus emphasizing on the catchline -'millennia come and go, but diamonds are forever!

The stunning Millennium Star is 203.04-carat, ‘D color’ (meaning colorless), externally and internally flawless diamond that is shaped like a pear. The stone is cut perfectly to proportions and after the 273.15 carat Centenary Diamond, the Millennium Diamond is the world’s second biggest faceted D-Flawless diamond.

The Millennium Star was first found among the alluvial deposits in the Mbuji-Mayi district of Zaire in the 1990s. It weighed 777 carats when it was uncut and was bought by De Beers. The stone was cut by Nir Livnat and the other cutters of the famous Steinmetz Diamond Group. This group of experts took about three years to cut and fashion this sparkling gem in a perfect pear shape. In fact the cutting was so flawless that not even one burn or scratch mark was visible on the facets of the diamond.

The Millennium Star was first exhibited as the prime attraction of the De Beers Millennium diamond collection consisting of eleven blue diamonds and the Heart of Eternity in the year 1999.

Later in 2003, the Millennium Star was also displayed at the ‘Splendour of Diamonds Exhibition’ that was held at the Smithsonian Museum in Washington DC.
