The diamond cuts and shapes enable a diamond lover to make the right choice of a diamond for a gift item. A cut is one of the 3 'C's that determine the final brilliance of a diamond. The following cuts and shapes are globally recognized by diamond craftsmen:
1.Baguette Cut: “Baguette” is French, meaning bread stick. The cut is so named because it is elongated or rectangular in shape. It requires little labor to design a baguette cut, hence it's a cutter's favorite. It's generally employed for ballerina and eternity rings. 2.Marquise Cut:The cut gets its name from Marquis De Pompadour whose smile was so captivating that the French king, Louis XIV ordered to craft a diamond in such a way that it resembled that very smile. It is elongated having tapering ends. 3.Princess Cut:This cut, which is square/rectangle, is again used as solitaire for engagement rings. For achieving total brilliance, emphasis is given on the depth of the diamond. 4.Heart shape:As the name suggests this shape is close to every woman's heart, being synonymous with love. The cutter can give complete dazzle and shine through his expertise.
5.Pear Cut: It is a perfect cross between the oval and marquise cuts. Having the look of a teardrop, it adorns pendants and ear rings. 6.Emerald Cut:Also called the “step cut”,it is rectangular in shape, with corners cut off. 7.Cushion cut:It is similar to the oval cut, with the facets being broad and having rounded corners. While opting for this cut, it is advisable to select diamonds with high clarity. 8.Radiant Cut:This combines the brilliance of the round cut and the quality of the emerald cut. Its 70 facets give the cut maximum brilliance. 9.Asscher cut: This cut, which changes the emerald cut to suit its own style dates back to 1902. The table area is less, whereas the step facets are larger.
