Windows 98

Windows 98 is graphical operating system(OS) of Microsoft, which was released in 1998, June 25. This is a successor to Windows 95. Windows 98 is considered to be a hybrid of 16-bit/32-bit monolithic product like other operating systems of windows, which are based on MS-DOS.



There are several editions of Windows 98. the first edition was assigned by 'internal version number 4.10.1998'. The second edition was designated by 'internal version number 4.10.2222A'. After the success of Windows 98, Windows Me was launched as its successor.

The advantages of Windows 98 are:

• It has low system requirement, as Windows 98 is a hybrid 16/32-bit operating system. This helps the system to gain full potential on any machine.
• When it is installed on bare hard drive, this OS uses FAT32 file system which helps in running the system smoothly. Windows 98 supports FAT12 and FAT16 which has a compatibility with MS-DOS and older versions of Windows.
• Windows 98 can run very successfully the old applications, which are created for Windows 3.0. It can also run new systems such as Windows NT.
