ViolaWWW is one of the earliest web browsers. It was launched at almost the same time as Erwise . ViolaWWW launched in May, 1992 was written by Pei Wei a student of University of California. While Erwise was the first browser for supporting UNIX computers , ViolaWWW was the second. It was called ViolaWWW because Pei Wei used the Viola language to write the program.

ViolaWWW functions on single window operation and the "clone" of a copy of any document in other windows.
It is featured by a History window with the list of documents visited.

It is characterized by online help buttons. So, it was made more user friendly.
The links in ViolaWWW browser are highlighted with button icons. Unlike Erwise browser you have to single click on links to open new pages or view images, etc.
