Cyber Dog
Cyber Dog can be defined as an Internet Suite that was developed by Apple Computers in order to replace Mac OS’s Apple Open Collaboration Environment. It was officially introduced in February 1996 as a beta.
Important Features of Cyber Dog
One of the important features of this web browser is that Cyber Dog was based on a software technology known as Open Doc. This is a very useful feature because it enabled Cyber Dog to function as a well incorporated, reliable and resource oriented web browser. Another important feature of Cyber Dog was that it provided with ample support for firewalls in the case of protocols. It also supported proxies, especially CERN proxies in the case of gopher.
Replacement of Cyber Dog
As the method of web browsing started to be more advanced, Cyber Dog lost much of its popularity. This happened because Open Doc, on which Cyber Dog was based, had certain features that proved to be obsolete and inconvenient. OpenDoc’s memory was large, even larger than the web browsers and other application compared to other Internet suites.
Moreover, it was not possible to view the documents, which were saved in such applications not supported by Open Doc. As a result of all these inconvenience, Apple thought it better to replace Cyber Dog with Internet Explorer.
Cyber Dog was undoubtedly one of the important Early Browsers.
