X-Smiles
X-Smiles can be defined as a Java based, Extensible Markup Language Browser. X-Smiles was developed by Telecommunications Software and Multimedia Laboratory of the Helsinki University of Technology. X-Smiles is released in Java programming language which gives it the capacity to be used for different types of platforms and machines. X-Smiles was first released on 2001 as a “open source”.
Main Objective of X-Smiles
The main objective behind the evolution of this web browser was to develop a Java based browser which can support different XML languages. The most important XML languages that X-Smiles supports are XHTML, XML+CSS, X3D, XSL Transformation, XForms and many more. Other important objectives which X-Smiles was expected to meet was mixing the different XML languages. Supporting rich multimedia features is another very important goal of X-Smiles.
Important Features of X-Smiles
X-Smiles is endowed with a number of brilliant features some of which are explained here. X-Smiles includes some of the important modules of SMIL. SVG and X3D. Also, “XForms Recommendations” are also implemented within X-Smiles.
The Rhino EcmaScript interpreter is used by X-Smiles in order to analyze the EcmaScripts which are included in the various documents. Some of the important features that are included in X-Smiles are XML Events, XML Signature, SIP Videoconferencing, and XML Praising.
All these important features and objectives of X-Smiles accounts for its importance as an Opera browser.
