NetSurf

NetSurf is a type of web browser that is open source and operates for RISC OS. As an open source browser, it can be easily accessed by the common people without any property limitations. RISC OS is actually a computer operating system whose creator was Acorn Computers, a British Manufacturer of computers. NetSurf also functions as a web browser for the Unix operating system, but that happens through GTK+. Unix is another computer operating system which was developed between 1960s and 1970s.

Aim of NetSurf

The motive of NetSurf is to become a browser that complies with CSS2 and HTML4. The idea of NetSurf was conceptualized in 2002, in The Icon Bar Forums by James Shaw.
Releases of NetSurf
  • Different versions of NetSurf have been released at various points of time. Version 1.0 was created in 17.05.2007. It was sold in 19.05.2007, in the form of a CD, at the Wakefield trade event. It was available from the web site of NetSurf, on that very day itself.. It can be downloaded publicly and every change that is made in its source code is noted. The process of development is very dynamic. Version 1.0 functions as a stable foundation for those who use it.
  • Version 2.0: After the release of version 1.0, development on version 2.0 will progress and it aims to be a complete browser for RISC OS and Unix.

NetSurf belongs to the group of other browsers and its name reflects the its intended function.
