Internet Explorer

Internet Explorer is one of the trident-based browsers and it was originally named, Microsoft Internet Explorer . Today it is commonly known as Windows Internet Explorer and its developer is Microsoft. The first version of Internet Explorer was released for Windows 95 and eventually many more versions were released for various operating systems such as Mac and UNIX. The latest version is 7.0 and can be accessed as a free update of Windows XP.

Internet Explorer Features

•  COM or component architecture model: It is a technology that is used on a wide scale for Internet Explorer . With the help of this, other parties enhance its functionality through BHO or browser helper objects. ActiveX controls are handled with an additional feature called Add-on Manager.

•  Accessibility: Windows provides a framework of accessibility for Internet Explorer . It also acts as FTP's user interface. The newer versions of Internet Explorer are provided with features like tabbed browsing and blocking of pop-ups.

•  Group Policy: Internet Explorer uses a group policy and its configurations depend on the machines and users.

•  Security: It has a framework of security, based on a specific zone and web sites are divided into different groups on some conditions. There are periodical releases of updates and patches to Internet Explorer .

Standards of support: It supports CSS level 1, HTML 4.01, DOM level 1 and XML 1.0.
