Internet Explorer Shells

The Internet Explorer Shells are a kind of software that use the Trident rendering Engine of Internet Explorer. What is a Trident layout? Trident or MSHTML is a layout engine made specially for the Microsoft Windows version of Internet Explorer. Microsoft has changed the Trident layout engine to match up to World Wide Web standards. Although the “Trident shell” specifically points out to terms such as the Internet Explorer, the term Internet Explorer shell or IE shell. These tools are hence not web browsers in the proper sense of term, but provides a supplementary platform for user interface with the Internet. They share the bugs and security vulnerabilities of the Trident engine.
