PacBell
PacBell is also known as the Pacific Bell Telephone Company. Previously the name of Bell System's telephone operations in California was known as the Pacific Telephone & Telegraph Company.
It acquired smaller telephone companies, which were located along the Pacific coastal region and grew in size. One such company was Sunset Telephone & Telegraph, which was taken over by PacBell in 1917. The company soon started spreading over in Oregon, Washington, and northern Idaho regions.
By the beginning of 1980, the Pacific Telephone & Telegraph Company had assets that valued at $14.5 billion. The company soon became the biggest sister concerns of the 22 Bells AT&T industries.
The beginning of 1984 witnessed the breakup of the AT&T. during this time the name of the Pacific Telephone and Telegraph Company was changed into Pacific Bell Telephone Company, which is now more commonly referred as PacBell.
The services offered by PacBell are:
- Wireless: PacBell is the number one provider of the wireless services in United Stated. It features over 61 million customers.
- Broadband: Catering to more than 12 million customers, PacBell is the number one broadband service provider in US.
- Business & Wholesale: PacBell earns $44 billion revenue approximately setting its own standards in the wholesale business in US.
- TV: PacBell Television is catered to more than 1.5 million US houses. The company offers a 100% IP based TV services.
