Videoconferencing is a process in which two or more number of persons can communicate with each other from different sites with the help of network connections. Audio and video data can be exchanged in between the participants in Videoconferencing.

Important Technologies

The most important Technology of Videoconferencing is the Codec. It is Codec which enables the compression of audio and video streams. Codec generates almost 1:500 compression rates. As a result of this level of compression rates, the electronic stream which is further distributed in a number of ‘packets’ and are simultaneously broadcasted through ISDN or IP.

Audio Modem is another important technology which is required for the transmission lines because it enables the application of Plain Old Telephone System. In addition to this, LAN or Internet is required to enable efficient and swift data flow. For conversing through the medium of Videoconferencing each of the participant’s computer system needs to b equipped with a video camera, microphone and a speaker.

Differing Technologies

However, here it is important to note that Technology of Videoconferencing is a concept which cannot be generalized. Technology used differs with the type of system employed. For example, Console is required in Dedicated System which is a specific Types of Videoconferencing. Again in another type, which is known as Desktop System, a series of different types of cameras and microphones are used.
