Videoconferencing

When two or more number of persons converse with each other

from different sites with the help of network connections and when through such conferencing, audio and video data can be exchanged between the participants, the process is called Videoconferencing. Videoconferencing is also known as Video Teleconference (VTC). When more than three people participate in Videoconferencing, it is known as Multipoint Videoconferencing.

Types of Videoconferencing

Dediactted Systems and Desktop Systems are the two specific type of Videoconferencing. In Dedicated System, all the necessary elements are organized in a console. This can again be subdivided into Large Group VCT, Small Group VCT, and Individual VCT. On the other hand, Desktop Systems requires all the different technologies required for Videoconferencing to be fitted in an ordinary computer, thereby, converting it into a device which can be used for video conference.

Technology Used in Videoconferencing :

The technologies which are used to make the above explained process successful are of different types. The most important technology which is required in Videoconferencing is the codec. It is Codec which enables the compression of audio and video streams. Audio modems are also required in the transmission lines because it allows the application of Plain Old Telephone System.



In addition to this, LAN or Internet is required to enable efficient data transmission. . For conversing through the medium of Videoconferencing each of the participant’s computer system needs to b equipped with a video camera, microphone and a speaker. Videoconferencing is gaining in its significance and popularity at an impressive pace.
