Netiquette refers to the basic etiquettes of using the net or Internet. The word Netiquette signifies “network etiquettes” or “etiquettes of cyberspace”. Netiquette in other words is the basic etiquettes that one should follow while using the net.

Purpose of Netiquette

The term Netiquette stands for manners expected from a well behaved Internet User. Netiquette presents a whole list of rules and principles that the net users are expected to keep in mind. These rules are formulated with the purpose to promote healthy usage of cyberspace. Netiquette offers well framed guidelines of how to behave properly online which is very much required in today's advanced world.

Most Important Rules of Netiquette

There are ten basic rules prescribed by Netiquette that we are expected to follow while we are communicating with other through Internet. The very first rule states that it is very important to remember the person with whom you are communicating for this will help you to understand that persons words and felling much better. Like this one there are nine other valuable rules the summarized goal of which is to teach and train the internet user how to respects and value for others time, how to maintain others privacy, where not to infringe, how to help other through personal expert knowledge, and how not to misuse personal power and much more.

Specified Netiquettes

However, it should be kept in mind that the different net medium calls for different kinds of “etiquettes of cyberspace”. On this basis, Netiquette can be specified as Usenet Etiquette, E-mail Etiquette, Internet Forum Etiquette and IRC Etiquette.

Thus it can be fairly concluded that adequate knowledge of Internet remains incomplete without the proper understanding and adaptation of Netiquette.
