Internet E-Mail History provides with a detailed description of the evolutionary phase of Electronic Mail which is popularly known as E-Mail. Internet E-Mail History clearly explains the series of events that ultimately established E-mail as a widely accepted online mean of communication.
Beginning of E-Mail
According to Internet E-Mail History , e-mail existed much before the evolution of Arpanet or Internet. E-mail itself led the foundation of Arpanet. In fact, it is hard to deny that the increased use of e-mails resulted in the increased popularity of Arpanet. Massachusetts Institute of Technology came up with the concept of Mailbox in 1965, which sowed the seed for the formal introduction of a system of exchanging messages. Another important system that was used to send mails earlier was SNDMSG.
Further Development of E-Mail
The process of development of e-mails started gaining momentum from 1974 when it was used for military purposes. After this, some E-mail folders were developed by Larry Roberts and some important software were developed by John Vital with the aim of organizing e-mails in 1975. All these important events allowed E-mail to be used for ordinary commercial purposes from 1976 onwards. Simple Message Transfer Protocol or simply SMTP was the very first type of E-mail to be used. It was a simple process of sending mails. This was followed by Eudora which was developed in 1988 by Steve Dorner and this promoted the use of e-mails for commercial purposes. This was followed by Pegasus mailing system.
