Modern democracies give special emphasis on each and every aspect of governance. Ranging from education to health care, every government hands the charges of each departments on respective ministries. The responsibilities include managing all affairs of the ministry such that the people of the nation are most benefited.

In recent times, with health being a major area of concern for all national and international governments, each country as well as state has a ministry to handle health affairs. In many countries, Health and Family Welfare are managed by the same ministry. While in others they are known only as Ministry of Health.






















Although the activities of ministry of health in each country vary as per the needs of the country, there are certain general functions of the Ministry of Health in each country. These include:

1.Drafting health related laws, regulations and policies
2.Proposing programs for developing over all national health
3.Formulating health standards, technical protocol and supervising their implementation
4.Promoting regional health programs
5.Developing programs on the prevention and treatment of diseases that pose serious threat to the population.
6.Setting guidelines and standards for practice of medicine and service delivery in the country.
7.Drafting national development programs on medical sciences and administering affiliated institutions.
8.Developing programs for eradication of major diseases as per international conventions like HIV AIDS, Polio, etc.
