Puberty is the time when a girl’s body begins to change into an adult woman’s body. Girls usually experience puberty between 9 to 13 years of age. While boys experience their changes between the ages of 10 and 14. This is why girls are often taller than boys during puberty. Puberty gives a girl a sense of freedom and liberty, maturity and responsibilities.
Hormones are responsible for the physical and emotional changes in puberty. The hormone estrogen initiates puberty in girls. Another hormone that plays an important role in female reproductive health is progesterone. These hormones are called sex hormones or reproductive hormones.
The puberty in teenage girls begins with the onset of monthly menstrual cycle. The starting of menstruation indicates womanhood and pregnancy may occur at anytime when the girl is ready to have sexual intercourse.
