Teen Health Awareness

Teenage is the transitional period between childhood and adulthood, innocence and maturity. Mentally teens remain childish but physical they mature. This misbalance naturally leads to disturbed mental condition. Besides several mental and bodily changes, they require special health attention. Parents and teachers can play a vital role during this period of time. They should be more aware of teen health.

With the onset of puberty and various bodily changes like growth of hairs in different parts of body in both girls and boys, development of penis and voice change in boys, growth of breasts in girls lead them to an awkward situation and they undergo special emotional needs. Some of the issues on which teen health awareness must be developed are as follows.

Physical health:

In this age several bodily changes occur. It is the duty of guardians to give them proper knowledge on puberty. As body develops, teens should cultivate proper food habits. In some of them complications arise with the onset of puberty. Proper medication and regular exercise can help.

Exercise:

Teens should engage themselves in regular exercise. Initially it may appear boring and painful but one can workout with their favorite sports, walking and aerobics. Exercise helps in increasing flexibility of the body, relieves stress, obesity and menstrual pain in girls, and enhances circulation of the body which also improves skin texture.

Mental health

Physical and mental health are intricately associated for overall development of a person. Teens experience strong emotional turmoil rising from simple issues like being bullies in the school, mental abuse from their elders and a sense of helplessness from being unable to understand and control their physical changes. Parents should be aware of their mental health. Since at this age teens have a strong sense of their self, guardians should be more sensible while dealing with them. Sometimes counseling can also help.

Sexual impulses:

During adolescence teens develop a strong sense of desire and attraction for the opposite gender. It is very important to carry their instincts in a more healthy direction like sports, music and other constructive activities. They should be properly instructed. Otherwise the teens can be misguided and engage themselves in unhealthy practices.

Addiction:

Teenagers are attracted to the thrills and adventures of this age. For the sake of enjoyment they may get addicted to drinking, smoking or other narcotic practices. If not checked in the correct time this can have a harmful effect in the near future.

involves attention to their physical health, mental health and concentrating their attention to the more beautiful facets of life to make them sensible and responsible citizens of the society.
