The University of York started its journey in the year 1963 with only 200 students. Currently the university has to 11000 students to show for. The main campus of the York University is at Heslington, it is a 200 acre landscaped park famous for its lake and wildfowl. The university comprises of eight colleges and 30 academic and research departments. National Science Learning Centre and York Science Park is two special features of the campus.

The University of York has a network of libraries in its campus and in the local area. It also has electronic library for its students. Accommodation is provided by the university to all its first year undergraduate students and the international students for the entire course. There is a postgraduate and Phd award scheme for the eligible candidates together with two prestigious studentships.
