During its advent in 1733, St George's Hospital was lodged in Lanesborough House at Hyde Park Corner. Since then it has undergone several overhauling measures and renovations and its final structure lies in St. George's Complex in Tooting, South London. St. Georges is unique in UK in the sense that it is the only autonomous Institute that offers the twin disciplines of Medicine and Heath Sciences.
Courses Offered
Some of the Bachelors of Science Degree Programs offered by St George's include:
- BSc (Hons) Biomedical Sciences
- BSc (Hons) Diagnostic Radiography
- BSc (Hons) Physiotherapy
- BSc (Hons) Therapeutic Radiography
St. George's offers Masters of Science Degrees in the following courses:
- Forensic Mental Health
- Health Sciences
- Rehabilitation
- Biomedical Sciences
Besides these, 150 full time researchers are involved actively in executing the various research projects at St. George's.
Scholarships
Many research projects in Medical Genetics are sponsored by the Birth Defects Foundation (BDF). The Foundation offers 6 scholarships to medical students enrolling for an additional BSc in Human Genetics.
Library Facilities
The number of books a student can take is very large in St George's Library. In fact, very few other medical college libraries in UK allow this large a number of books per student. The library subscribes to over 4,000 hard copy and soft copy journal titles for the benefit of its research scholars.
Student Facilities
The Counseling Service team comprises social workers and psychologists who assist many students to deal with or get over relationship worries, work pressures and family problems.
Accommodation
Students can avail of the accommodation facilities in St George's Halls of Residence. There are 134 single bedrooms in these Halls. Bathrooms and Kitchens have to be shared.
