The WINTEC (Waikato Institute of Technology) was founded in 1924 as the Hamilton Technical College with the aim of providing technical and trades training in the Waikato. The institute achieved its present name and status in 2001 and the ‘WINTEC' brand was adopted in 2003. Presently, WINTEC is the fifth largest institute of technology or polytechnic in New Zealand, and has over 24,000 students.
Location : The main campus of the WINTEC ( Waikato Institute of Technology) is in the city of Hamilton near the city centre. The campus provides education to the most populated area of the greater Waikato from Coromandel Peninsula to Te Kuiti. A large number of students from across New Zealand come to study in this institute, along with a growing number of international students. The institute has altogether three campuses in Hamilton.
Courses : There are more than 150 programs and 2,500 modules under the WINTEC ( Waikato Institute of Technology). The subjects accommodated by the main campus are - Media Arts, Communication, Health, Education & Social Development, English Language, Mäori, Pasifika & Indigenous Studies, Information, Communication & Electrical Technology, Business & Administration, Science, Engineering & Architecture and Retail & Services.

Library & Learning Resources : The WINTEC (Waikato Institute of Technology) library offers books, e-books, journals, magazines, periodicals, references, exam papers, CDs, videos, DVDs, and newspapers for the students. The facilities available in the library are, catalogue, databases, internet access, research tools, photocopying, study rooms and audiovisual rooms.
Accommodation : The Accommodation Office at the WINTEC (Waikato Institute of Technology) offers three main types of accommodation for the students. The options are, boarding, hostel or flats. Availability of accommodation is to be checked with the accommodation officer.
Scholarships : The WINTEC offers a number of scholarships for local students who are enrolled under some specific programs of study. Otherwise, scholarships are also offered on the basis of age, disability, ethnicity, gender, hardship and conducting research. Apart from this, four separate International Scholarships are offered to international students by the institution.
