University of Auckland


Inaugurated on 23rd May 1883, the University of Auckland in New Zealand is spread on 5 campuses with a School of Theology and 8 faculties representing each of its main disciplines: Arts, Business and Economics, Creative Arts and Industries, Education, Engineering, Law, Medical and Health Sciences, and Science. Almost all teaching staff takes part in research which attempts to advance the frontiers of knowledge and understanding, and around 5000 students are enrolled for postgraduate studies, 1200 of whom are undertaking doctorates. It is New Zealand's number on University and is ranked in the world's top 50 Universities.

The University has continued to improve its facilities, with a new information and student commons complex already complete on the City Campus, the new teaching and research spaces at Tamaki Campus, and a new home for the Business School is on the verge of completion which will enable the students to have a scientific and fully equipped infrastructure for their studies.

Apart from the City campus, the other campuses include Epsom Campus, Grafton campus, North Shore campus, Tamaki campus and many more. The governing body of the university is the Council which include staff and students, the Senate however looks over matters concerning academics and the Faculties are headed by the Deans.

The Te Tumu Library has subject specific libraries and the overall capacity of the library is: it carries 2.2 million volumes, 355,oo microfilms, 700+ network databases and 284,000 electronic books etc.

there are several research institute on the campus and they indulge in various research programs:

  • Geothermal Research Institute
  • New Zealand Asia Institute
  • New Zealand Leadership Institute
  • Research on Wine Industry Institute etc
Scholarships are provided to the individual departments and for degree programs. The scholarships are provided to the students based not only on their merit but also to students who are in need of financial assistance.

There are 1500 scholarships worth $7.5 and some of them are:
  • International Scholarships
  • Graduate Scholarships
  • Post graduate scholarship

Accommodations are available to the students in the form of halls, home stays and private flats. The university takes care to support the different clubs and societies which provide the students with the taste of vibrant and diverse experiences and the clubs include Rock and Alpine Club, Music Club, Art Galleries etc. Address:
