The Tairawhiti Polytechnic was established in 2004. It is a local tertiary education centre. The institute seeks to provide more personal attention to its students. There are over 80 programs offered by the institute, among which Viticulture and Winemaking is a high-demand subject.
Location : The Tairawhiti Polytechnic is located in Gisborne, situated on the East Coast of New Zealand's North Island. It is close to Auckland and Wellington and has daily air and bus services. The main campus is situated in the centre of the city and the majority of the taught programs are hosted here. The other campus is the Rural Studies Campus located within a short distance from the main campus, and hosts the rural, outdoor sport and leisure programs.

The qualifications offered by the institute are – Certificate, Diploma, Bachelor Degree Programs, Work-related Part Time Courses, Short Courses and English Language Courses.

Library & Learning Resources : The library at the Tairawhiti Polytechnic is maintained for the students, though most of the services are also available to the public. The library contains study rooms, audio-visual rooms, areas for group study, computers and photocopiers. The resources provided to support the taught programs are books, magazines, audiovisual material, CDs and newspapers. There is also the Open Learning Centre adjacent to the library, with ten computers, scanners and printers for student use.
Accommodation : Three options are provided by the institute for student accommodation. They are, Flats, Hostel and ‘Homestay' accommodation. The institute encourages the students to opt for ‘Homestay'.
