The Manukau Institute of Technology was established in 1970 and is one of the leading education and training institutes of New Zealand. The institution concentrates on high academic standards as well as applied practical skills. It is a centre for art & design, having a national reputation for jewellery programs. The institution possesses five of the largest computer networks in the country and also is a pioneer for ‘second chance' education.

Library & Learning Resources : The library at the Manukau Institute of Technology provides relevant resources for study and research. The resources include reference materials, books, journals, electronic databases, audio-visual materials and exam papers related to the taught programs. The library also offers 225 study seats, photocopiers, group study rooms and over 68 computers for student use. Additionally, the Learning Support Centre provides necessary assistance to students regarding coursework.
Accommodation : The Manukau Institute of Technology provides accommodation to its students in 14 self-contained student houses altogether known as the Student Village. The Student Village is located between the North and South campuses. Accommodation consists of single study bedrooms. The university also provides private sector accommodation in the form of ‘Homestay' and Rented Accommodation.
Scholarships : Hardship and Financial Assistance Grants are provided to the students by the Manukau Institute of Technology. The grants are offered to students facing serious financial trouble. The institute also provides grants for groups and projects. There is also the provision for emergency assistance to the students under the Student Financial Assistance scheme.
